1961
SEi Companies has its beginnings as Shooshanian Engineering Associates, a mechanical and electrical engineering firm founded by Ed Shooshanian. The firm’s professional practice focuses on K-12, healthcare, and public projects.

1997
Robert Gracilieri becomes President and CEO, bringing in a new management team. He transforms the practice by expanding the firm’s services and penetrating new market sectors: commercial, higher education, healthcare, science, and cultural projects.

2001
SEi Companies reinforces its commitment to quality by becoming ISO 9001 Certified.

2003
Dabney Engineering of Houston, TX merges with Shooshanian to form a new entity – SEi Companies. Dabney Engineering’s practice complements Shooshanian’s by virtue of Dabney’s expertise in mechanical and electrical systems used in commercial buildings, as well as expertise in advanced systems, including co-generated central plants, thermal mass storage, random paralleled standby generation, high rise building life safety systems, airport lighting, and data center UPS.

2006
SEi Companies and PKP Engineers of Washington, DC announce a merger combining the staff and resources of their respective consulting engineering firms. Now with a team of 150 employees, SEi is effectively positioned to meet the needs of today's multilocation clients.

2006
With an expanding national practice and offices in Boston, Houston and Washington, DC, SEi Companies celebrates its 45th year. The company's reputation as a client-centered, service-oriented, quality-driven firm with the flexibility to respond quickly to customer priorities continues to grow.

2007
SEi Companies merges with internationally renowned engineering firm Flack + Kurtz forming the largest MEP
consulting firm in the United States with a combined staff of over 600 and offices in New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Las Vegas along with SEi’s offices in Boston, Houston and Washington, DC and many more cities around the world through the WSP Group, the parent company of Flack +Kurtz.
