SEi’s fire protection teams work
to protect buildings and their occupants in the event of fire by controlling
and containing a fire’s spread. Fire suppression solutions are
part of a larger picture. They are integrated with the entire approach
to the building’s protection along with methods of construction,
occupancy and material types, routes of egress, and the detection
and alarm of smoke and fire. Fire protection solutions are holistic,
relating to occupant and building safety by incorporating requirements
of local, state and national codes, fire and building departments,
insurance underwriters and building managers.
Different building types and occupancies require different fire protection solutions, whether it be a high- hazard classification for certain storage or manufacturing facilities, a data center with raised floor and Inergen suppression systems, facilities subject to freezing with dry pipe design, museums with high value artifacts and cross zoned preaction design, or buildings with inadequate municipal water services requiring on site fire water storage and pumping. Working with SEi’s mechanical and electrical teams, fire detection and suppression solutions are coordinated with fire alarm and annunciation requirements, fire command centers, emergency/life safety power, fire department arrival and fire fighting methodologies.
