| SEi is committed to sustainable design,
a design philosophy seeking harmony between energy use, building materials,
and the natural environment to help preserve the Earth’s natural
resources. Sustainable design looks at all aspects of the design and
construction process to create safe, comfortable and efficient man
made environments while minimizing the impact on the natural environment
over the life of the facility.
This design process is an extremely collaborative one that requires commitment among all parties of the owner/design/construct team. This collaborative process is key in assuring that the sustainable mandate is conceived and executed in a manner consistent with the owner’s goals and objectives and that the various building components and designs work together in a manner consistent with sound environmental principals. SEi is a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and has numerous LEED™ (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accredited professionals on staff. SEi can lead the LEED™ registration, documentation and certification process submitting documents to the USGBC to verify the performance of the structure and make sure that it is indeed worthy of being LEED™ certified. SEi is one of the few firms nationally to have completed LEED™ certified projects. How a building will withstand the tests of time will define its ultimate sustainability. The degradation of building systems, materials and the exposure to weather over time will affect a building’s useful life. Such concerns impact a building’s design and these concepts have led engineers at SEi to become very sensitive to the concept of regenerative design. To ensure that any aspect of the building itself will not be harmful to the environment from its first year of existence to its eventual disposal is a guiding principle changing how buildings are constructed.
