SEi Designed Geothermal Heat Pump Systems Help Revive the Radcliffe Gymnasium at Harvard University’s Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.
Originally built in 1898, Harvard’s Radcliffe Gymnasium has undergone a successful renovation.  SEi is the MEP/FP and communications technologies engineer for the project that includes geothermal heat pumps as the primary source of heating and cooling for the building.  The 1,500 foot deep geothermal wells, transfer the earth’s natural stores of energy into useful heating and cooling for the building’s mechanical systems.  By not requiring the use of a boiler or a cooling tower, the use of geothermal technology also reduced the space required for the mechanical room in the Radcliffe Gym.  SEi teamed with architect Bruner/Cott & Associates, Inc. on this project.
